This year’s Jungle Run is a 5 kilometre trail and obstacle race for individuals and families, located in the usually-off-limits jungle ravine at Centaurs Sports Park in Turf City.
Wild jungle in a surprising location
The course site is at the former Bukit Timah racecourse, which is now a popular sports and recreation venue. The race route winds along a jungle ravine peppered with natural and manmade obstacles and home to a variety of native Singapore flora and fauna.
The site is known in some circles for Centaurs’ muddy pit birthday parties and school holiday camps, and in others for Singapore Cycling Federation mountain biking programmes and Jungle Cross races run by Cycosports. Participants in the August Spartan Bukit Timah race would have also experienced a small section of the natural trail but left the obstacles untouched.
“There really is nothing else like it”
This is the organisers’ third competitive race and fifth overall Jungle Run event in the last 3 years.
“October events are our timed races and 2019 marks our third year of working with Columbia and Tampines West CSC. In May 2018 and June 2019, we worked with Centre for Fathering (Dads for Life) to deliver no-pressure, non-competitive Walk Editions as part of their Celebrating Fathers calendars,” says Centaurs CEO & Founder Tim Lambert. “Achieving as a family is at the heart of everything we do. We’re really proud of our ongoing relationships with entities passionate about bringing more sport to more people in Singapore.”
October’s upcoming event
Organisers chose the date of Sunday 6 October around school exams and hope that families will choose to celebrate with a healthy morning outdoors together. The event will start at 7.30am on Sunday 6 October, with organisers hoping to beat the heat. Participants will be set off in staggered waves to ease bottlenecks on natural trails, and to try give everyone a taste of the tranquil jungle.
“Compared to years before, the registration and categories have been simplified – the family pair category from last year has been opened up to a family group category (for sizes between 2 and 8 family members). The course will feature all the favourites from years before and incorporate new obstacles – but those will be kept under wraps for now,” says Mr Lambert.
The Individual categories remain for those looking to compete, and the Fun Run category also survives into 2019 for runners who are new to trails, 5km runs or just want to take their time.
